Labor Day Weekend marks the official end of summer. It’s also the time for a longstanding Summit County tradition: The Great Rubber Duck Race!

For three decades, this fun-filled community event has raised money in support of the Summit Foundation’s grant and scholarship programs. The Summit Foundation is the leading organization inspiring people and mobilizing resources to improve and enrich the lives of individuals in Summit County.

The locals know summer can officially begin once the Town’s party has come and gone. Breckenridge Town Party, also known as the rite of passage to celebrate the move from spring to summer, is this Thursday, June 13. Breckenridge Ski Resort plans to extend the 2018-19 ski and snowboarding season through Memorial Day. This adds more than a month of extra skiing and riding for pass holders and resort guests for the first time in close to 20 years. The resort’s original closing date for the season was planned for April 21, and is now extended through Memorial Day, Monday, May 27. Breckenridge said it plans to operate the extended season on Peak 7, and will offer access to advanced- and expert-level terrain on Peak 8, which includes Imperial, Horseshoe and North Bowls, which are accessed by the Independent SuperChair, the Imperial Express SuperChair and the TBar. Domus Pacis is Latin for House of Peace. The Domus Pacis Family Respite encourages cancer patients, their families and friends to escape to the beauty of the mountains and experience the peace that comes from creating joyful memories for the people they most cherish. Through donated resort homes and many giving volunteers, the central mountains of Colorado including Summit County, were designated as the non-profit program’s initial respite community. Since 2008, Domus Pacis has coordinated nearly 1,000 family respite stays.
