WAVE: Light + Water + Sound

Get ready for the ultimate sensory experience in Breckenridge. The return of the WAVE: Light + Water + Sound brings a welcome exhibition to the community in late May. In this free, four-night festival, guests will experience cutting-edge sculptures, interactive art installations and live performances in a truly unique setting. The event is centered around transforming the Blue River and Breckenridge waterfront into outdoor canvases and stages to showcase contemporary public art. The works of art are exceptional when viewed with the naturally magical evening sky and Breckenridge’s scenic mountain backdrop.

Taking place May 30-June 2, 2019 from 3-11pm, the sensory-stimulating festival will appeal to curious and artistic minds with “must-see” works of art and titles including: Cloud - a sculpture comprised of 6,000 incandescent light bulbs and Les Voyageurs + Les Oiseaux - a visual masterpiece made from chicken wire. Iceberg will invite guest to experience the life of an iceberg from a series of arches that produce different sounds arranged in a tunnel. Intermittent Positive Reinforcement is a hanging neon sculpture with an interactive Instagram platform.

Sounds from Floating Brass, a musical pop-up put on by the artists of the National Repertory Orchestra, will be featured throughout the festival along with a variety of community workshops and events. Kids can make their own pinhole cameras, mesh sculptures and one-of-a-kind art books. Families can participate in the community Light Cycle bike ride. Adults can learn about various art mediums through the scheduled artist talks. Daily offerings include workshops where attendees can learn basic welding skills by creating a tin can luminary, or woodworking techniques where they can create their own shadow box.

Funding for WAVE: Light + Water + Sound is generously provided by the Town of Breckenridge and the National Endowment for the Arts, with media support from Mountain Living. Presented by Breckenridge Creative Arts.
