Carving begins on the 12-foot tall blocks on January 20, and will continue through Friday morning. Judging begins at 9 a.m. and the awards will be announced at a ceremony at 6 p.m. in the Riverwalk Center. The sculptures will remain in place for viewing until January 29, when they will be bulldozed.  The sun and weather will affect the sculptures, and the judging is based on their appearance at 9 a.m. on Friday.  Sculptors are allowed to work through the night from Thursday to Friday with lights and music. This last night is always a fun evening for viewing. The sculptures will be nearly completed, the finishing details will be added during the cold of the night and the sculptors, although tired, will be excited to finish their work.

During the event, there will be an exhibition of art relating to snow sculpture and a short film about the event. Folks at Breckenridge Associates Real Estate have been involved with the snow sculpture event from its very beginning. Our agent, Rob Neyland, was instrumental in the founding of the event. For more, see our history of snow sculpture in Breckenridge.
