Street Party in Breckenridge

Carnival Comes to the Street

When Breck says "party" they mean it!  The moving and shaking will head off the slopes and onto Main Street. You won't want to miss it! The first, soon-to-be-annual "FAT TUESDAY" Mardi Gras street party happens on Feb 17, 2015. While the street party is new, Mardi Gras lovers and beaucoup visitors from New Orleans have traditionally taken over Breckenridge with masks, boas, beads, music and revelry to celebrate the carnival season.

And this year should be no different as the soul of NOLA comes north. The free Mardi Gras Street Party will happen in the 100 & 200 blocks of South Main Street from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be larger than life street puppets, fire dancers and whole like of easy going on.

Snow Sculpture Championships, 2015, final night

Teams from Ukraine, Germany, Lithuania, Mongolia, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, France, China and the U.S. finished their snow sculptures at 10 am today in the  International Snow Sculpture Championships held in Breckenridge for the 25th time.

 
Teams from the states of Vermont, Alaska and the hometown Breckenridge team were part of this year's competition, as well. 

Temperatures were unusually warm all week for this year's competition, and on the final hour the sky became extremely overcast. "I'm afraid you're getting the wrong impression of Breckenridge," was overhead while the teams worked to polish their sculptures from top to pavement.

Happy New Year.  The Breckenridge and Summit County real estate market closed out 2014 with continued signs that the market is maintaining.  The number of properties sold in the Summit County residential real estate market outperformed year-end 2013 by almost 8.5 percent.  The Breckenridge residential market had only a slight gain of one percent.  A positive is that properties are selling at a consistent rate with a significantly lower number of showings. 

For the month of December, all sectors of the real estate market remained flat or outperformed December 2013. 

In Breckenridge, there were 19 single family homes, 4 duplex homes, 27 condos, and 8 townhomes that sold in the month of December 2014.
