The latest community news and local happenings for Breckenridge and Summit County.

With approximately 10 months of construction remaining, the new parking structure currently doesn’t look like much. The final plan features include heated sidewalks, a plaza with restrooms, elevators, availability signate, electric car charging stations, and pedestrian improvements along the eastern side bordering the Blue River. The architectural design is influenced by Breckenridge’s mining history and will include wood siding, stone accents and native landscaping. The idea of drawing visitors toward Main Street restaurants and shops after a day on the mountain also played a big role in the functional design aspects.

Artist renderings of site plans and construction timeline can be seen on the Town of Breckenridge website.

Summit County residents and visitors are the lucky beneficiaries of a real estate purchase that adds more than 1,000 acres to the county's already abundant open space and trails network. Knorr Lakeside Ranch went on the market in the spring after six generations of the family had ranched the land, but just couldn't keep plugging away at the tough business of ranching. Thanks to their neighbors, who initially bought the property, Summit County now has land on the banks of Green Mountain Reservoir, near Heeney, in the northern part of the county.

The latest gift of open space arrives through the hard work of many committed people, who tirelessly work to increase this bounty, to blaze public/private solutions to creating and protecting open space and…
