BIFA Presents SPARK: A Sky Full of Light

This August, Breckenridge will transform into a glowing outdoor gallery with the U.S. debut of SPARK, an immersive light sculpture by Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde, presented by Breck Create as a highlight of BIFA 2025. Inspired by the natural beauty of fireflies, this large-scale installation will send thousands of biodegradable light sparks drifting up to 160 feet into the night sky, carried softly by the breeze and inviting viewers to pause, look up, and share a moment of collective wonder beneath the stars.

Event Snapshot

• Dates: Evening performances on August 15, 16 & 17, from ~9:30 PM to ~12:30 AM (varies by night)
• Admission: Free with timed-entry registration to manage small, staggered audience groups for optimal viewing.
• Experience: Bring blankets or pillows to lounge, wander among softly drifting light forms, and connect with others beneath the floating sparks

Art Meets Environmental Purpose

SPARK emerges from the mission of Studio Roosegaarde, merging art, technology, and sustainability. It’s designed as a poetic alternative to traditional fireworks, eliminating air, soil, and sound pollution while offering gentle wonder for all ages — especially for those sensitive to noise, wildfires, or wildlife disturbance.

The installation aligns with Breckenridge’s pursuit of becoming an International Dark Sky Community, turning the town into a nightly gallery under protected skies.
