Tordal Estates - a subdivision at the foot of Red Peak
Tordal Estates is at the base of Red Mountain, seen here from the Tenmile Range
Homes for sale in Tordal Estates are seven miles from downtown Breckenridge and just steps from the public lands of the national forest and the peaks of Red Mountain and Red Peak.
Across the highway is Quandary Peak, Summit County's only 14er, and the last mountain before Hoosier Ridge, which separates Park and Summit counties. Getting out of town to the south and over the pass into South Park is easy from Tordal Estates, so this is great property for people living in Colorado Springs and southern Colorado as well as people who travel to rural Colorado. It’s south of the incorporated town of Blue River, and not in any other municipality. Road maintenance and snow removal, as well as planning and building is done by the county.

Tordal Estates is a neighborhood of large home sites, all at least an acre. There is a great diversity of small and large homes on these private lots. Tordal Estates is forested, but any homeowners can easily find great views of the Ten Mile Range and Baldy and Red mountains out the backdoor. Ready access to hiking trails and cross country skiing, these lots offer a lot of privacy and quiet. The neighborhood has only one main road with homes laid out on branching smaller roads, so there is very little car traffic, and no forest service trailheads, although public land is the eastern border of the whole subdivision
View from the Wheeler Trail.
The trailhead for Summit County’s only 14er is just across Highway 9 from Tordal Estates. Hkers and cross-country skiers will find the Quandary Peak trail, and another called McCullough Gulch - a beautiful climb alongside the creek that intersects with the Wheeler Trail - a well-establish trail rising up and over the ridge of the Tenmile Range and eventually into Breckenridge.
The Blue River runs along the highway at the entrance to the neighborhood and is well known for great fishing. Bemrose Ski Circus, one of the first ski areas in Colorado, never large, and now abandoned, is a great place to cross-country ski and is just south of Tordal Estates.
A walk through the forest on social trails from the neighborhood, hikers will find ways up Red Mountain, which is obvious by its color. A neighboring peak is its twin and called Red Peak. These mountains are not heavily traveled, nor are they certified to be 14ers - but are spectacularly in the 13-thousands. Ptarmigan and other alpine animals and flowers are abundant.
