Self Care Tips for May

Immunity Boosting Self-Care Tips

In the coming weeks, as our country begins to ease its way back to normal, we will see changes in stay-at-home orders and restrictions. Within our own industry, we are now able to resume in-person showings as long as abiding by public health guidelines. Regardless of your current employment or quarantine status, there are simple things we can all do at home do to show ourselves some tender loving care. Self care is especially important right now to strengthen our immune systems and boost our moods.

As our local health and wellness businesses eventually re-open, we encourage you to support them any way you can. In the mean time, we encourage you to try one or all of the self-care tips below.

Have an At-Home Spa Day

While it’s more relaxing and preferable for the professionals to administer our spa treatments, quarantined times call for quarantined measures. Start with a face mask made from ingredients you likely already have in the kitchen such as oatmeal or egg whites (Google and Pinterest have tons of ideas for you). Exfoliate your skin from the neck down with an exfoliating glove or washcloth. No special exfoliating products are needed- just give your skin a good rub down. Fill up the tub, add some oils or bubbles. Light some candles and fill a glass of wine. Turn off the lights and lock the door. Lay back with a warm cloth on your face.

Yoga and Exercise

Regular exercise improves cardiovascular health and protects against a variety of diseases as well as battling boredom, depression and anxiety. It’s a pillar of healthy living.  Visit FitnessBlender.com for a one-stop online workout source. Filters will allow you to choose a time length, difficulty level, equipment, and type of workout, all the way from a 5-minute Yoga stretch to a strenuous 90-minute lung buster.

Fortify Your Immune System

Your diet has a big impact on your immune system. We all know we’re supposed to eat more fruits and vegetables. If you struggle with this because you don’t like them, try looking at it in a new context. Eating healthy is preferable to illness and quarantine- right? Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and increase foods rich in vitamins C and E, zinc, carotenoids, and omega 3. Challenge yourself to find healthy recipes that sounds yummy.

Fresh Flowers

Don’t wait for someone to send flowers to you. Pick up a small bouquet along with your groceries or call a local florist who will be grateful for the business. Fresh flowers promote relaxation, reduce depression and anxiety, and they smell nice!

Reduce Allergens in Your Home

Because Colorado air is dry and most mountain homes do not central air, dust accumulation is a common issue. Vacuum thoroughly and use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe down all surfaces from top to bottom. Don’t forget ceiling fans and tops of cabinets and appliances. Consider using an air purifier or filter. A purifier kills bacteria, viruses and other airborne contaminants. Filters block dust, pollen, and pet hair.

What you eat, your attitude and exercise all affect immune system. Embrace this downtime to daydream, reflect, and think about what is most important to you and reconnect with what makes you happy.
