Secret Stash - Locals Love September
It's the changing of seasons. It's a shift to cooler mornings, beautiful foliage, fall hikes, signature events and let's not forget...a countdown to skiing and snowboarding. These are some of our favorite things fall brings. Escape to Breckenridge this fall and see why the locals love September.

Whether taking the time to view the "Colorado gold" of changing leaves on Boreas Pass or during your favorite fall hike, drinking a brew on Main Street for Oktoberfest or touring Summit County's finest homes during the Parade of Homes, you're sure to want to spend some time in Breckenridge this September.

Breckenridge's Peak Foliage:
Driving: View the golden leaves of the high country now, the leaves are golden and glowing in Breckenridge. Leaf peepers will love driving through the natural tunnel of trees on Boreas Road for prime peeping! The tunnel of trees is a true highlight of this adventure, an outing everyone will enjoy this fall.
Directions to/from Boreas Pass in Breckenridge:
Head south through Breckenridge onto Boreas Pass Road by taking a left at the stoplight on the south side of town. You will come to a dirt road after 3.5 miles. Stay on the dirt road and you’ll be surrounded by beautiful Colorado gold as you navigate through tunnels of Aspens and gradually above timberline. Learn some history along the way – the road follows an abandoned railroad grade, which was the original route of the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad. You can turn around at any time, or continue approximately 11 miles on the dirt road to the town of Como. Enjoy the foliage and incredible views of the Continental Divide. To get back to Breckenridge from Como, take Highway 285 south to Highway 9/Fairplay. Follow the highway through Fairplay, Alma and back to Breckenridge.

Hiking: Stop by the Welcome Center on Main Street in Breckenridge for the Hiking & Biking map. For $15 you'll get a great map (pictured below) that showcases the trail system in Breckenridge and has more than a handfull of some great, local hiking loops.
