Summer is the surprise gift of life in high country. A highlight of early summer in Breckenridge is the town party, a community wide celebration of a successful winter behind us and a salute to all the fun summer holds in the sunny days ahead.” Bike rides, outdoor concerts, bike-in movies, sailing on Lake Dillon, farmer’s markets, hikes, art festivals, camping, kayaking and whitewater rafting, sun-kissed Colorado produce, campfires, music festivals, convertibles, parades, outhouse races… Outhouse races? It’s also a chance for a beloved local tradition- the town photo. It’s like your best school photo ever without the uncomfortable new school clothes… with beer! Free music and food; come see old friends or meet new neighbors.

So back to those Outhouse races…B
reckenridge was discovered in 1859, but mistakenly left out of official US maps until incorporation in 1936. Upon discovering the omission, the pioneering Breck residents promptly proclaimed the “Kingdom of Breckenridge.” We celebrate the independent spirit mining heritage every summer with Kingdom Days. Join in a series of events or saddle up to cheer the rolling thunder of the handmade human powered outhouse-mobiles as they race down Main Street for glory and the Golden Throne trophy.
