What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think the words Festival, Breckenridge and September? Oktoberfest, of course!
Don’t try to wrestle it into something logical. It’s just Oktoberfest. In September. The 8th-10th to be exact. On Main Street. In Breckenridge. Oh, by the way- it’s great. One of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the Rocky Mountains, the Breckenridge Oktoberfest marries festival-style outdoor drinking (reportedly 8,000 gallons of beer and wine are poured!) with family fun and live music, and exists in that space when time stands still and life seems free of consequences.
Sometimes it snows.
Sometimes it’s sunny and 80.
It’s always high-spirited, well attended and there are snacks that consist of meat on sticks.
And meat in buns.
And well, just a lot of meat.
And hot pretzels. And beer. And music. People dance. Especially if it begins to snow; beer, pretzels and meat fuel them, after all.
Kids are welcome and the free bouncy house gives you a good place to stow them while you stand nearby enjoying your adult beverages.
Dogs are not welcome, as all the meat blowing around tends to send them into a frenzy. I made that part up, but because food is served, Fido must stay at home. While the event information doesn’t explicitly state it, I imagine that even the best-behaved cats are not welcome either.
If you feel the need to mingle your fest-ing and your fitness, there is the Oktoberfest 5K on the morning of Saturday, September 9th, at 10 am in the South Gondola Lot. Preregister here.
