Breckenridge Mardi Gras 2020

Although the weather will certainly be wildly different than on Fat Tuesday in Louisiana, you can experience an authentic New Orleans inspired Mardi Gras on February 25 right here in Breckenridge. In fact, you might find the annual celebration to be more fun in the mountains—Breckenridge throws the best parities! What is Fat Tuesday, anyway, and why the celebrating? Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday", and refers to the practice of stuffing yourself on rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season ushers in a time of restraint and reflection that may feed your soul, but Mardi Gras feeds your body! Breckenridge’s annual celebration encourages party goers to get immersed in the spirit of chaotic fun and colorful adornment. Brightly costumed revelers are part of the scene, and past celebrations were enlivened by ball gowns and funky thrift store costumes—and plenty of crazy face paint. The party spills into the streets with a spirited parade right down Main Street, Breckenridge, with flamboyant Mardi Gras floats and flying beads.

If you’ve been part of Breckenridge Mardi Gras in the past, you will find this year’s special guests a super addition to the fun: some of New Orleans’ most highly respected musicians travel to our mountain town to add their talents to the exuberance of the day. A Main Street parade with a New Orleans brass band is on tap! Close your eyes and you’ll think you’re in The French Quarter! And that is only one of the events on the schedule. Grab your boas and masks, green, purple, and gold costumes, load up with plenty of beads and join the celebration. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
