Valley of the Sun is so wide and open, with several large creeks and nice aspen and pine forests. that you'll see more sun than the feeling of being in a valley. Fishing, Hiking and Stellar Views

To the west of Valley of the Sun are the high mountains of the Mosquito Range. Hiking, biking and ski trails can be found starting from the neighborhood or off the jeep roads that climb higher. Follow Sacramento Creek up to where there is snow most of the year and you'll find good fishing. The homeowners of Valley of the Sun maintain and have private access to the lower Sacremento Creek Reservoir.

East of the eastern part of Valley of the Sun you'll find the Platte River and more good fishing. Jeep roads link up from this neighborhood and the adjoining Platte River Ranch with roads from Fairplay. The landscapes here are less tree covered than adjacent Summit County and you'll be able to see Mount Silverheels as you explore these backcountry roads.  Or find skiing and hiking trails that veer off from the main jeep roads. Montgomery Reservoir is just north of this valley, beautiful and cool year round.

Living in Valley of the Sun

Electricity is available to the home builders in this large neighborhood, and chances are one of your neighbors has helped bring it to your lot, or you can go off grid with the plentiful sun in VOTS because the other utilities, water and sewer are already the self-sufficient kind: septic systems and well water.  If designed by high quality soil engineers septic systems are more economical and planet friendly that the big city utilities. And wells, when drilled by the experienced operators of this area produce the best quality of drinking water.  Buyers should ask about what planning work has been done on a lot before purchase, and if a septic and well permit have already been obtained, you're in luck.  This adds significant value to the property. Most of the lots in Valley of the Sun are large enough to accommodate wells, septic systems and a good home footprint, but it is always wise to investigate before purchase with an experienced engineering firm.

About a mile past town, the majority of the homes in Valley of the Sun will be found on your right off County Road 14 or CR 1.  A few are mingled in with Glacier Ridge and will be on your left, east of yourself driving south on Highway 9.
