Winter Events and Powder Days Abound in Breckenridge
Soooo many events, so little time. Just last week Breckenridge hosted three major events. The Breck Snowflake Challenge, The Ski Spectacular, and the Alpine Sports Film Festival.

The Breck Snowflake Challenge is the local's snow sculpture contest. Once a part of ULLR FEST, the recently resurrected, grass-roots event was an opportunity for 18 artists and their teams consisting of 1 - 6 people, to create sculptures out of piles, or "blocks" of snow in front of and beside businesses on Main Street. The sculptures should last weeks, likely right up and to the time the International Snow Sculpture Competition begins, and adorn the historic streetscape with a charming affect. Cartoon characters, holiday scenes, wildlife and a couple train engines made entirely of Colorado's sometimes abundant yet most precious commodity adds even more depth to the statement "the snow is GREAT in Breckenridge this year"!

The Hartford Ski Spectacular is the world's largest winter sports event for people with physical disabilities. More than 800 participants attended and enjoyed learning skiing, snowboarding and the training to teach adaptive skiing. Now in it's 23rd year, this event is proof positive that there's life after injury and opportunity to keep the competitive spirit alive.

The Alpine Sports Independent Film Festival brought filmmakers from all over the world to Breckenridge with the best of their works in this exciting genre.

This weekend, December 16 - 19, the Winter DEW TOUR launches it's season on the all-new, award-winning terrain park and 22' super-pipe on Peak 8. The BEST snowboarders and extreme skiers in the world will begin competition for a prize purse exceeding $1.5 million. The DEW TOUR is broadcast live on NBC Sports, with additional lifestyle broadcasts on MTV,FUEL TV,and others.

One might ask WHY? WHY is this little town SOOO busy with all this FUN STUFF? Because thats what we do. Breckenridge has always been about 'GREAT TIMES'. The resort chamber's tag line, for a long time, was 'GREAT TIMES SINCE 1859'. Although the tag line they use has changed over the years, the sentiment has definitely not. This town is all about great times!
