The Breckenridge Backstage Theatre

The Breckenridge Backstage Theatre has come a long way since staging their first performance for rowdy bar patrons in 1974. With more than a 40-year history in Summit County, and with over 12,000 patrons a year attending Backstage Theater shows, the Backstage Theatre is an amazing pocket of high country outliers creating culture at 9600 feet.

July 17, 2016 marked the grand opening of the newly remodeled 9000 square foot, 137 plush seated facility in the heart of Breckenridge’s Arts District on Ridge Street. Visitors and locals alike have long been charmed by the quality of the Backstage productions and the new venue, with the support of the Town Of Breckenridge, creates a permanent home for our intrepid high country thespians and theater fans. This former home of the famous Shamus O’Toole’s Roadhouse Saloon provides an apt allegory of our evolving high country culture. And in keeping with the location’s rich history, there is a bar. We are still a ski town, after all.

The 2016/2017 season opens November 25th with She Loves Me, and continues through September 2017, with 8 different productions throughout the season. Reservations are recommended though walk-ins are welcome. The box office can be reached at 970.485.2864 and tickets can be purchased online. With the many restaurants located within walking distance from the theatre, it’s now simple to put together a lovely evening of fine dining and culture in Breckenridge. As you can imagine, at the inception of the Backstage Theatre in 1974 in a bar, this was not always the case!
