Team Breckenridge takes Gold at this year Budweiser International Snow Sculptures. For only the second time in 24 years, Team Breckenridge created a stunning masterpiece, winning first place. Their whimsical piece named “Winter Fun” took the award over 16 teams that represented 12 different countries. “Winter Fun” was a sculpture of a father, son and their dog enjoying time tubing together. The tubing hill was created by Ullr, the norse god of snow, himself. It was a very fierce competition this year, with artists sculpting for 65 hours in five days. The second place win went to team Germany. They carved a beautiful, perfectly honed balancing discs sculpture. Third place went to Team Wisconsin. They stunned the judges with the intricate flower blossoms with butterflies. Team Mongolia was trying to defend their title, but feel short and earned the People’s Choice. Their sculpture, still an amazing piece, was of a mother dinosaur protecting her nest.
New this year, the Snowflake Lounge in the Riverwalk Center was open to the public. Affordable Decors did a fabulous job decorating and sponsoring the lounge, making it a cozy place to come in and get out of the cold. The lounge features a historic timeline of the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture event. Take a look back at all the wonderful sculptures that have taken place over the last 24 years.
