One buzz-worthy academic program that has been getting a lot of attention over the past several years locally, is the Dual Language (English & Spanish) program that was initiated at Dillon Valley Elementary School five years ago. Each classroom rotates between two teachers, teaching in a constant flow by rotating subjects and languages over a three-week period. Everyone in the classroom is learning a second language, whether Spanish or English - thus helping to create a global culture.

Beginning with two kindergarten classes in 2004, the program has now evolved to splitting into 4 classrooms for new enrollment. The popularity of this program will also be translated at some capacity to Summit Middle School by the time the now 5th graders from the original dual language class are set to start middle school.

What an amazing opportunity for kids to grow up and learn a second language when they can really focus on it. Summit Daily News featured a full report on the program recently. Link to the full article here.
