How to Spend Early Spring in Summit County

With Breckenridge Ski Resort closing earlier than usual this year, spring has arrived in Summit County ahead of schedule, bringing longer days, abundant sunshine, and the opportunity to embrace the mountains in a whole new way. South-facing trails are beginning to dry, patios are filling with afternoon sun, and locals are trading ski boots for hiking shoes. With warmer temperatures arriving sooner than expected, many lower-elevation trails and in-town paths are already becoming accessible, making it the perfect time to step outside, enjoy the fresh air, and take full advantage of spring in the mountains.

Cruise into Bike Season

Bike season in Summit County is already underway, making it the perfect time to dust off your bike or grab a rental and get outside. Whether you’re cruising the rec path between Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, and Keystone or looking to sneak in some early singletrack, there’s plenty of riding to be had. The paved paths are clear and easygoing, great for families or a relaxed ride, while dirt trails at lower elevations are starting to dry out. If you’re heading onto singletrack, aim for sunnier trails and be mindful of conditions, but it’s a great way to get a jump on summer riding.

Bike Racks on Buses:

Bike racks were added to Summit Stage buses early this year (April 3) thanks to the quick start to spring. Racks are available from sunrise to sunset and hold up to 3 bikes per bus on a first-come, first-served basis.

• No bikes allowed inside the bus
• Not allowed on racks: Class 2 or higher e-bikes (anything with a throttle) and any bike over 50 lbs
• Times are based on sunrise/sunset in Frisco, so plan accordingly
