International Snow Sculpture Championships

Posted by Breckenridge Associates Real Estate on Saturday, January 5th, 2019 at 9:23pm.

It’s time again to experience the magic of Breckenridge’s famed International Snow Sculpture Championships - Mother Nature’s perfect canvas to showcase the amazing art of snow sculpting. Breckenridge Associates Real Estate has partnered in this world-class event since its inception 29 years ago, with close ties to the event’s original founders, who have helped it succeed into the event it is today. This year’s International Snow Sculpture Championship takes place January 21-30, 2019.

Snowsculpture International 2019

The snow sculpting event includes 16 international teams. This year’s competitors are from China, Ecuador, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Mongolia, Turkey and the USA (Breckenridge, CO and Wisconsin are representing for the USA teams). Teams assemble and work the first week, January 21-25, to hand-carve 12-foot-tall, 20-ton blocks of snow into beautiful snow sculpture works of art. Artists are only allowed to use hand tools and their own creativity to bring their ideas to life. They work non-stop for these five days with their teams to create inspired masterpieces - 96 hours! The result is an amazing display of public art in downtown Breckenridge for all to enjoy the following week, January 26-30.

Event Highlights:
Monday, January 21 at 11am - Snow sculpting begins with a shotgun start.

Thursday, January 24 - This is a great time to see the snow sculptures. Sculptures are coming to life and artists are preparing to do the final detail work throughout the night.

Friday, January 25 at 9am - Snow sculpting ends.

Friday, January 25 at 6pm - Awards ceremony.

January 25-30 - Nightly Light show. The sculptures will be illuminated from dusk to dawn throughout viewing week.
